The southern end of the plot is an alder thicket, the northern end a Solidago covered alluvial floodplain. The upland surrounding the wetland is made up of a mostly natural Prunus serotina, Betula alleghaniensis forest, but there are several red pine and norway spruce plantations interspersed.;Early successional herbaceous community, surrounded on three sides by an alder thicket. Some of the smaller alder are encroaching the southern end of the plot. The fourth side of the plot borders a tall herb community dominated by Solidago rugosa and Euthamia graminifolia. This tall herb community is the largest community we have seen in this wetland. However the community is somewhat marginal. That is why we surveyed the wetter seep area.
Representativeness
